Lorraine Bates

Lorraine’s work at Woodsetton Art Pottery is rooted in the traditional Black Country techniques of hand metal working and it combines ceramics which echo the Arts and Crafts era. The stoneware and porcelain clays are formed using techniques of throwing, hand- building and casting to make pieces which are both useful and beautiful.

Lorraine trained at Bath Academy of Art, eventually setting up a pottery studio alongside her family’s pewter firm in Woodsetton, in the West Midlands.
